Synopsis
Wings (1966) — watch online on iFILM — is Larisa Shepitko's feature debut, produced at Mosfilm. Maya Bulgakova plays Nadezhda Petrovna: decorated WWII fighter pilot, now the director of a provincial vocational school, and quietly coming apart.
Three days in her life. The war gave Petrovna clarity — targets, orders, danger, all of it real and immediate. Peacetime offers lesson plans, parent meetings, and a grown daughter who feels like a stranger. Shepitko doesn't explain what is wrong with her; she just watches a woman shaped for one kind of world try to function in another, and misfire repeatedly. Evgeny Yevstigneyev and Sergei Nikonenko appear in supporting roles.
