Synopsis
Unicorn Wars (2022) is a Spanish animated horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Director Alberto Vázquez — whose earlier Birdboy: The Forgotten Children earned festival recognition — wraps a brutal war narrative inside the visual language of children's cartoons: pastel colors, teddy bears, sparkly unicorns. The result is deliberately disorienting.
A bear army has been fighting unicorns for so long that no one alive remembers the reason. Young recruit Bluey is driven by prophecy — unicorn blood supposedly grants eternal beauty — while his gentler brother Tubby just wants to make it home. What begins as a training-camp story turns far darker once they reach the Magic Forest. A co-production of Spain, Belgium, and France, running 93 minutes.
The film functions as allegory for religious extremism, fraternal rivalry, or colonial violence — possibly all three simultaneously. It is not comfortable viewing, and Vázquez clearly intends it that way. Stream Unicorn Wars (2022) online on iFILM.
