Seventeen

Seventeen (Diecisiete, 2019) is a Spanish dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. Withdrawn and bad with people, seventeen-year-old Héctor breaks out of juvenile detention for one reason: to track down the dog he was forced to give up.

That dog was part of his therapy, and he can't picture life without it. His search drags in his older brother Ismael, who has plenty on his own plate — an ailing grandmother and years of distance between the two of them. The road north through green Cantabria slowly does what no counselor or lockup could.

Director Daniel Sánchez Arévalo delivers a warm road movie that never tips into sentiment, blending real ache with easy humor. Biel Montoro and Nacho Sánchez make the brothers wholly believable.
