Synopsis
The Thieving Magpie (La Pie voleuse, 2025) is Robert Guédiguian's bittersweet comedy-drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Maria is no longer young, yet she spends her days caring for people older than herself, scraping by on almost nothing.
The elderly clients she tends to adore her — and she quietly helps herself to a few euros here and there, partly out of need, partly for the grandson she loves. It works until someone accuses her of abusing a vulnerable person, and Maria lands in police custody. Guédiguian films his native Marseille and his longtime troupe; Ariane Ascaride and Jean-Pierre Darroussin play it warm and unforced, never judging a woman who steals.
