Synopsis
Virgin Mountain (Fúsi, 2015) is an Icelandic drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Dagur Kári. Fúsi is 43, works the baggage ramp at Reykjavik airport, still lives with his mother, and spends evenings running miniature World War II battle recreations on his bedroom floor.
He's not unhappy. He's not much of anything. A court-mandated dance class deposits Alma into his routine — restless, loud, trailing a young daughter and enough chaos to rattle his entire perimeter. The film doesn't stage his awakening as triumph. It just watches, unhurried, to see what happens when someone finally pays attention.
Gunnar Jónsson's performance is the whole of it — vast, still, quietly wrecking. Iceland submitted Fúsi as its Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film. Stream Virgin Mountain online on iFILM.
