Synopsis
The Life Apart (La vita accanto, 2024) is an Italian drama about music and rejection, ready to watch online on iFILM. The setting is Vicenza in the early 1980s. A wealthy doctor and his wife finally get the daughter they longed for, Rebecca — yet a wide red birthmark covers half the baby's face, and her mother can never quite see past it to the child underneath.
Rebecca grows up in that chill. Few friends, a house that keeps her out of sight, a mother who pulls away. What rescues her is a piano. Her aunt, a celebrated concert pianist, sits her at the keys and is the first to hear something rare in the girl. Note by note, music hands Rebecca the voice she could never find with her own family.
The film is directed by Marco Tullio Giordana, known for the six-hour epic The Best of Youth, and adapted from Mariapia Veladiano's novel.
