Gordita Chronicles (2022) is an HBO Max family comedy series to watch online on iFILM, with the pilot directed by Eva Longoria. Created by Claudia Forestieri, it draws on her own childhood as a Dominican immigrant in 1980s Miami.
Carlota Castelli is twelve, loud, and fiercely herself when her family moves from Santo Domingo in 1985 because her father landed a job in Florida. Back home she was just a spirited girl who happened to be chubby. In Miami she is the new kid with the accent, the curves, and the nickname gordita that follows her into every classroom. The American dream her parents are chasing looks rather different from where she is standing.
The show treats Carlota's size not as the main problem but as one more way she doesn't quite fit — and it earns its laughs by approaching that gap honestly rather than making it cute.
