Synopsis
Paterno (2018) is an HBO TV drama you can watch online on iFILM, with Al Pacino playing college football's all-time winningest coach, Joe Paterno. Barry Levinson directs from a script by Debora Cahn and John C. Richards.
For over four decades Paterno built Penn State football into a moral institution as much as a winning one. Then 2011 arrived: his long-time defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was charged with the serial sexual abuse of children, and questions turned immediately to what Paterno knew and when. The university fired him by phone before the season was out. He died two months later.
Pacino doesn't play Paterno as villain or saint — he plays a man so accustomed to being right that admitting a blind spot had become structurally impossible. That specific, quiet kind of institutional failure is what makes the film land harder than a courtroom drama would. Stream Paterno (2018) online on iFILM.
