Each episode is its own disaster with its own rulebook. A wormhole drops Kryten and Rimmer onto a planet where time runs backwards. A minefield of black holes strands Lister and Rimmer alone on a frozen world, where the two finally talk like people. A shape-shifting polymorph then sneaks aboard and feeds on their emotions, a stray accident arms the self-destruct, a liquid turns old photos into doorways through time, and the run ends with Kryten given a single day to live.
