This season leans harder on the characters than the gadgets. Kryten answers a distress call from Camille, a being everyone sees as their perfect match, and falls in love for the first time. From there the crew finds a machine that rewrites DNA, lands in a zone where any crime is punished the instant you commit it, and nearly dies when a newly genius-level Holly accidentally switches off life support. Best of all, Rimmer meets his heroic parallel self — fearless Ace — and quietly cannot bear the sight of him.
Season 4 is warmer and more personal than the run before it: less outright horror, more of these four needling and disappointing each other. A good entry point if you care about the people more than the sci-fi ride. Watch all episodes online on iFILM.
