Synopsis

Nick Leeson, a working-class kid with a head for numbers, lands at Barings' Singapore desk and soon becomes its golden boy. Behind the winning streak, the losses keep stacking up, buried in a hidden account he tagged 88888 and papered over with forged reports nobody in London bothered to check. The deeper the hole gets, the harder he gambles, while his wife Lisa (Anna Friel) is kept in the dark.
Director James Dearden built the film from Leeson's own memoir, and McGregor plays him with no apology: charming, reckless, doomed. The damage runs to 1.4 billion dollars and one of Britain's oldest merchant banks, wiped out by sheer nerve. A solid watch for anyone who liked The Big Short and other studies of money gone mad.
