Synopsis
Dragon Ball: The Path to Power (1996) is Toei Animation's theatrical retelling of the franchise's origin, made for Dragon Ball's tenth anniversary — stream it online on iFILM. Director Shigeyasu Yamauchi rebuilt the story from scratch rather than just compressing the early episodes.
The setup is familiar: young Goku, the first Dragon Ball, Bulma dragging him across the world, Yamcha and Oolong getting in the way. But the Red Ribbon Army story is flipped — this time they come hunting Goku instead of the other way around — and the final confrontation runs bigger and louder than anything in the original TV arc. The original Japanese voice cast is intact, with Masako Nozawa and Hiromi Tsuru back in their roles.
If the Dragon Ball you care about is the adventure-first original series — before the power levels went to infinity and the fights lasted twenty episodes — this film is the cleanest version of that. Watch Dragon Ball: The Path to Power (1996) online on iFILM.
