The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll
LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN!
Synopsis
The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960) is a Hammer horror from director Terence Fisher that you can watch online on iFILM. This one flips Stevenson's old tale on its head and scrambles everything you expect from it.
Here the respectable Dr Jekyll is the bearded, buttoned-up scientist, while his other self, Hyde, comes out young, clean-shaven and charming. Behind the handsome face is a predator: once the dark half is loose, the doctor lies, seduces and kills his way through London. Paul Massie plays both men, and the gap between the two faces is what powers the picture.
The Hammer signature is all here — rich colour, smoky nightclubs, costume-drama England — and sharp eyes will catch Christopher Lee as the caddish Paul and a very young Oliver Reed in a bit part. What makes it stick is the inversion: evil looks better than good, and that unsettles you more than any makeup could. Stream The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960) online on iFILM.
