Synopsis
A Heart in Winter (Un cœur en hiver, 1992) is a French drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Claude Sautet and starring Daniel Auteuil, Emmanuelle Béart, and André Dussollier. Two men share a violin-making atelier in Paris: Maxime, warm and sociable; Stéphane, precise and unreachable.
When Maxime falls for Camille — a gifted violinist performing Ravel — she finds herself drawn to Stéphane instead. He engages just enough to seem interested, then withdraws. Not cruelly. Just completely. Sautet spends the film examining a man who is emotionally unavailable in a way that has nothing to do with cruelty and everything to do with constitution. Auteuil makes that blankness compelling without ever explaining it — which is braver than most psychological dramas dare.
