Synopsis

Bears (2014) is a Disneynature documentary you can watch online on iFILM — directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, narrated by John C. Reilly, and filmed on the Alaskan coast.

The film tracks a brown bear named Sky and her two cubs, Scout and Amber, from the moment they emerge from hibernation in early spring through the end of their first full year. The journey takes them from the high mountain slopes down to the coastline salmon runs of Katmai and Lake Clark. Along the way: Scout gets himself into trouble at regular intervals, Amber stays closer to her mother, and Sky has to keep feeding them both while fending off larger male bears looking to take over her territory.

Fothergill and Scholey brought the same production rigour from BBC's Planet Earth and Africa series — the footage is patient, the storytelling keeps the bears as characters rather than scenery, and Reilly's narration stays lighter than a David Attenborough production without undermining the real stakes.
