Synopsis
A Girl in Australia (Bello, onesto, emigrato Australia sposerebbe compaesana illibata, 1971) is an Italian comedy by Luigi Zampa you can watch online on iFILM. Amedeo left Italy thirty years ago and froze in the morals of the 1930s; now he wants a bride from the old country, and she must be a virgin.
Settled in the Australian outback, the lonely emigrant places a newspaper ad and exchanges letters with his promised wife, then drives to the airport to meet her. The woman who steps off the plane, the dazzling Carmela, is nothing like the modest girl he imagined — and he falls for her on the spot, blind to how she once earned a living. From there his fossilized rulebook collides with the liberated 1970s. Alberto Sordi and Claudia Cardinale lead the cast.
A sharp comedy of manners, with Sordi doing what he did best: a stubborn traditionalist who is funny and pathetic in the same breath. The 107-minute film quietly skewers the double standards around "honor" and a woman's past. One for fans of classic Italian comedy with a bitter aftertaste.
