Synopsis
The Burglars (Le Casse, 1971) is a French-Italian crime thriller with Jean-Paul Belmondo that you can watch online on iFILM. A crew of pros led by safecracker Azad cracks the vault in a wealthy Greek's villa and walks off with a million dollars in emeralds. The job goes perfectly — right up until they miss the ship that was supposed to carry them out of the country.
That delay is where the film really starts. Police chief Zacharia picks up Azad's trail, but he doesn't want an arrest; he wants a cut. The two men prowl around sunlit Athens testing each other, one hiding the stones, the other squeezing. It builds to a dizzying car chase through narrow streets and stone staircases — much of it pulled off by Belmondo himself, who, as usual, did his own stunts.
Director Henri Verneuil cares less about the puzzle than about two charming predators circling. Belmondo plays the thief with that cocky grin of his, while Omar Sharif makes the cop quietly more dangerous than any crook. It's a solid genre ride from the era when stunts were shot for real, not rendered. Perfect for fans of old-school heists and chases with no digital safety net. Stream The Burglars online on iFILM.
