Synopsis
War and Peace, Part IV: Pierre Bezukhov (1967) — watch online on iFILM — brings Sergei Bondarchuk's four-part Tolstoy adaptation to its close.
Borodino is over. Kutuzov orders the retreat and Moscow is abandoned — then set ablaze. Pierre (Bondarchuk) disguises himself as a peasant and walks into the occupied city intending to kill Napoleon; the French arrest him as a suspected arsonist and come close to shooting him. Meanwhile the mortally wounded Andrei Bolkonsky (Vyacheslav Tikhonov) is unknowingly carried on the same wagon as Natasha Rostova (Lyudmila Savelyeva) — and finds a moment to forgive her before he dies. The Grande Armée begins its disastrous winter retreat; Pierre is marched westward as a prisoner until a Cossack raiding party frees him.
Where Part III was spectacle, this installment is quieter: frozen roads, frostbitten survivors, and a city slowly rebuilding. Stream War and Peace (1967) online on iFILM.
