Synopsis
Strange Circus (奇妙なサーカス, 2005) is a Japanese horror-mystery by director Sion Sono that you can watch online on iFILM. Taeko is a successful erotic novelist who uses a wheelchair and lives alone in a lavish apartment. Her current manuscript tells a disturbing story of incest, violence and family collapse. When her young editor Yuji starts looking into her past, he discovers that the wheelchair might be a performance — and that the novel's darkness might be closer to autobiography than fiction.
Sono builds the film in deliberate layers, letting the timeline fragment and contradict itself. What looks like backstory becomes present-tense, what seems like fiction turns back into memory, and the ground keeps shifting until the final act rearranges everything again. The horror here is not sudden — it accumulates, image by image.
