High-schooler Mitsuko is the only one left alive after a catastrophic event wipes out her entire class. Before she can process what happened, the world around her starts shifting. The film keeps rewriting its own logic, and the ground never stays solid for long.

Sono's approach is deliberately disorienting: this is not a straightforward slasher but closer to a feminist nightmare with an action movie's body count. Genre boundaries dissolve.
