Synopsis
Panfilov's 28 Men (2016) is a Russian war drama you can watch online on iFILM, co-directed by Kim Druzhinin and Andrey Shchalyopa. It revisits one of the most retold moments of the Soviet defence of Moscow.
November 1941, Volokolamsk Highway. Twenty-eight soldiers from General Ivan Panfilov's 316th Rifle Division hold the road against fifty-four German tanks. No retreat order. Almost no armour on their side.
The production was crowdfunded by more than 33,000 individual backers — a model virtually unheard of in Russian filmmaking at the time. Druzhinin and Shchalyopa built the script from wartime field dispatches, not official accounts, and the result carries genuine fatigue and cold that most patriotic war films scrub clean.
