Father of My Children

Father of My Children (Le Père de mes enfants, 2009) is a French-German drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mia Hansen-Løve. Louis-Do de Lencquesaing plays Grégoire Canvel, a film producer with a wife he loves, three daughters, and a production company called Moon Films that is quietly going under.

The first half follows Grégoire in motion: late-night calls, difficult directors, creditors losing patience. Then the film pivots without announcement. His wife Sylvia (Chiara Caselli) and their daughters are left with the debts, the unfinished projects, and the gap where he used to be.

Hansen-Løve doesn't explain the shift — she just moves into the next chapter. What emerges is a careful study of what a person leaves in their work and in the people around them: not grief as event, but grief as new terrain.
