Synopsis
The Flying Guillotine (1975) is a Hong Kong martial arts film from Shaw Brothers — watch online on iFILM. Directed by Ho Meng-Hua, it introduced one of genre cinema's most recognisable weapons: a thrown blade-ringed disc designed to remove a man's head from across a room.
A paranoid Emperor uses the device to eliminate anyone he fears. Imperial guard Mau Tang (Chen Kuan-tai) carries out orders without question — until the killings stop being justice and start being convenient. He slips away from court, takes up farming, starts a family. The past finds him anyway.
This was the first in a loose series and sparked a wave of imitations across Asian cinema through the late 1970s; the flying guillotine itself showed up in dozens of later productions, becoming shorthand for a whole strand of martial arts film. Watch The Flying Guillotine (1975) online on iFILM.
