The Fox

The Fox (Der Fuchs, 2023) is an Austrian war drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Adrian Goiginger based the film on his great-grandfather Franz Streitberger's wartime experience — a motorcycle dispatch rider who found an injured fox cub on a road leading toward occupied France.

Franz keeps the animal. The fox travels with him through campaigns and losses. It doesn't know there's a war. That's the point. Simon Morzé plays Streitberger with a stillness that makes the bond between soldier and animal entirely believable without pushing it into sentiment.

Goiginger first turned family history into cinema with The Best of All Worlds (2017), Austria's submission for the Academy Awards that year.
