Synopsis
At Least in the Movies (2022) is a Kazakh social comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Timur Dulatov opens with a clean, cutting premise: official Kairat wins the tender for a hospital construction project, promises a world-class clinic, and quietly builds himself a luxury country estate with the public funds.
When financial investigators start circling, Kairat's lawyer suggests a getaway — check into a hospital as a seriously ill patient. Kairat agrees, and ends up admitted to the exact clinic his corruption hollowed out. Dauren Sergazin plays a man so accustomed to the system bending for him that he barely registers what it looks like from the other side. At 97 minutes, the film makes its point without repeating it.
