Synopsis
"Provincial" (Провинциал, 2021) is a Ukrainian detective comedy series you can watch online on iFILM. Small-town police captain Nikolai Semashko clears a general of a false charge, and the general returns the favour with a city transfer.
The city does not take to him. Semashko is too straight for the office politics, too plain-spoken for colleagues who have long since learned to look away. His wife Svetlana had been counting on him to quit the force and take a comfortable position at her father's company. The series uses criminal cases as a vehicle for deadpan satire on urban bureaucratic culture — a decent cop surrounded by a system that has no use for decency.
