From there it's pure Fulci chaos. Tourists, soldiers and a few unlucky locals get stranded on an island where the dead won't stay down and every bite breeds another rotting ghoul. Illness forced Fulci off the shoot, so Bruno Mattei and Claudio Fragasso filmed the rest, which is why the thing lurches between real dread and total nonsense. If you love grimy 1980s Italian zombie cinema, this is a feast: flying severed heads, goofy dubbing and buckets of gore. It's cheap, gory and proud of it — the kind of trash the genre lives for.
