Synopsis
An Unfinished Piece for Player Piano (1977) is available to watch online on iFILM — Nikita Mikhalkov's tightly controlled adaptation of Chekhov's early writings, assembled from several works including the play Platonov, shot when Mikhalkov himself was twenty-nine.
A group of friends gather at a crumbling country estate for a summer afternoon. Schoolteacher Platonov (Alexander Kalyagin) arrives with his wife, only to find his first love Sofya (Elena Solovey) among the guests — now married to someone else. Over the course of one long day, old feelings crack back open and years of unsaid things start to surface.
