Synopsis
The Club (El club, 2015) is Pablo Larraín's bleak Chilean thriller, available to watch online on iFILM. In a drab house on the coast, well out of sight, four men live out their days under the watch of a nun named Mónica. Each is a former priest the Church chose to hide here rather than hand to a court, sent to atone in silence. Their hours are timed to the minute, and their one small thrill is a greyhound they secretly train for the local races.
That brittle calm cracks the day a fifth man arrives. A stranger turns up at the gate and starts shouting, in plain detail, what one of these holy fathers once did to him. The voice rises — then a gunshot cuts it off. To bury the scandal, the capital sends a young Jesuit investigator, and the quiet exile turns into an interrogation where everyone will lie to keep their peace.
Larraín shoots in a cold, washed-out haze and traps you in a room with men you don't want to pity. The film took the Grand Jury Prize, the Silver Bear, at the Berlinale and stands among the sharpest things ever said on screen about impunity inside the Church. Not a cozy-night pick — a film for viewers ready for a hard conversation. Stream The Club (2015) online on iFILM.
