Synopsis
SLC Punk (1998) is James Merendino's comedy-drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Reagan-era Salt Lake City, deep in Mormon country, is the last place on earth you'd expect a blue-mohawked punk. That's exactly where Stevo lives, treating anarchy like a faith and the whole world like an enemy.
Matthew Lillard plays a kid who shouts about freedom louder than anyone, then quietly can't say what he actually believes in. With his best friend Heroin Bob (Michael Goorjian) he drifts through gigs, brawls and parties, sneering at posers and the system — while his ex-hippie father keeps nudging him toward Harvard Law. Under the leather, studs and hair dye sits a question he can't outrun: can you stay yourself and still fit into the society you despise?
It's a cult favorite for anyone who knew punk as survival, not fashion. The film mocks its own heroes one minute and lands a gut-punch ending the next, all riding a soundtrack of real period anthems. Stream SLC Punk (1998) online on iFILM.
