Synopsis
Another Day of Life (2018) is an animated documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Veteran Polish reporter Ryszard Kapuściński drives straight into the place everyone else is fleeing: Angola in 1975, where colonial rule collapses and civil war ignites.
Kapuściński chases a front line that is everywhere and nowhere, crossing burned-out roads in search of a story bigger than himself. Hand-drawn sequences give way to real interviews with the soldiers, commanders and survivors who lived through those months. A journalist trained to stay detached finds that detachment slipping. As he later put it, a reporter left Poland, but a writer came back.
Directed by Raúl de la Fuente and Damian Nenow and adapted from Kapuściński's own book, the film fuses 2D animation with live footage to put you inside a witness's head rather than behind a camera. It picked up European Film Award recognition for that gamble. A strong pick if you love nonfiction but are tired of talking-head docs. Stream Another Day of Life online on iFILM.
