Synopsis
Battle of the Classes (La Lutte des classes, 2019) is a French comedy by Michel Leclerc you can watch online on iFILM. Paul is an ageing rock musician and committed anarchist; his wife Sofia, played by Leïla Bekhti, is a high-flying lawyer. Both take pride in sending their nine-year-old Corentin to the ordinary public school of working-class Bagnolet rather than a private one.
That principle starts to wobble when his classmates transfer, one by one, to a pricey school in Paris — until Corentin is the only kid left in his class. Suddenly the parents' politics run straight into parental panic: keep their son hostage to their ideals, or cave and enrol him where everyone else went. Leclerc turns a schoolyard dilemma into a sharp satire of the left-leaning middle class, where loud convictions buckle fast against fear for one's own child. Bekhti and Édouard Baer play the rift without caricature. Stream Battle of the Classes (2019) online on iFILM.
