Synopsis
De Gaulle: The Sovereign Edge (2026) is the second part of Antonin Baudry's French historical biopic, and you can watch it online on iFILM. The original French title, La Bataille de Gaulle: J'écris ton nom, takes its name from a line in Paul Éluard's wartime poem "Freedom" — a quiet signal that this isn't simply a war film.
Where the first part captured the moment de Gaulle left for London with nothing, this film follows the harder work: building a resistance from scratch, pressing Churchill and Roosevelt for recognition from a position of near-zero leverage, and steering toward a France that didn't yet exist. Simon Abkarian returns in the lead, with Niels Schneider, Benoît Magimel, Thierry Lermitte, and Anamaria Vartolomei. Together the two films trace de Gaulle's entire wartime arc from the June 1940 armistice through liberation — and the shape of the political figure who came out the other side.
