Cat-astrophe (Котострофа, 2023) is a Russian sitcom you can watch online on iFILM. To patch up their finances, the Myagkov family sells the house and moves into the apartment of a recently departed old lady. The place doesn't come empty.

Deep in the new flat lives a brazen ginger cat, fully convinced the home is his and the Myagkovs are the intruders. They try every trick to evict the freeloader, and every time he saunters back. Then, mid-chase, family man Mikhail steps on a frayed power cable. The jolt hits him and the cat at once. When he comes round, Mikhail can suddenly hear what the cat is thinking. Things spiral from there: the ginger menace works him over fast, the family caves and keeps him, and the routine of one ordinary Moscow household falls apart.

The whole show rides on one premise — a man hearing what his cat really thinks — and it pays off, because the smug ginger narrates his owners exactly like you imagine your own pet would. Mikhail Trukhin and Pavel Derevyanko clearly enjoy playing grown men out-acted by an animal.
