Synopsis
2 or 3 Things I Know About Her (1967) is Jean-Luc Godard's essay-film you can watch online on iFILM. Marina Vlady plays a housewife in a Paris high-rise who turns to part-time prostitution — not out of desperation alone, but to keep pace with the consumer life the city keeps advertising at her.
Godard shot it in a single summer alongside La Chinoise, building the script from a Le Nouvel Observateur article about suburban Parisian women who traded sex to pay off installment plans. "Her" in the title is both the woman on screen and the city itself — cranes, billboards, new highways, a metropolis consuming its own people. The director whispers observations over the images throughout, questioning what labour, value and the body even mean inside a society organized around shopping.
This is not a morality tale. It's closer to a filmed lecture that never stops being cinema. Few works from 1967 read as sharply today on capitalism and female autonomy. Watch 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her online on iFILM.
