Synopsis
The Case of Hana & Alice (2015) is a Japanese animated mystery you can watch online on iFILM. After her parents split, fourteen-year-old Tetsuko — nicknamed Alice — moves with her mother to a sleepy provincial town.
Her new school gives her the cold shoulder; from day one her classmates pretend she isn't there. Worse, her assigned desk once belonged to a boy nicknamed Judas, said to have been murdered a year earlier. Chasing the gossip, Alice tracks down her odd neighbor Hana, a girl who never goes to class and spends her days watching the street from a window. The two loners team up for an investigation that turns out far more tender than frightening. Yu Aoi and Anne Suzuki voice the girls.
Shunji Iwai conceived this as a prequel to his live-action Hana and Alice (2004), filming his actors and converting the footage into animation through rotoscoping. The result is a gentle study of teenage loneliness dressed up as a whodunit — ideal for fans of slow, atmospheric anime. Stream The Case of Hana & Alice (2015) online on iFILM.
