The Adventures of Soldier Ivan Chonkin (Season 1)

The Adventures of Soldier Ivan Chonkin (2007) is a Russian comedy series you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Vladimir Voinovich's satirical novel. Set in the summer of 1941 as war sweeps across the country, it plants its story in the village of Krasnoye — far from any front, but not far enough to be left alone. Directed by Aleksey Kiryushchenko.

Corporal Ivan Chonkin arrives to guard a downed aircraft and ends up staying far longer than ordered, falling for the local mail carrier Nyura Belyashova. Around them the village keeps turning: the district NKVD office, the party committee, and the locals all generate their own brand of chaos that has very little to do with the war and everything to do with who they are.
