Island of Terror
How could they stop the devouring death...that lived by sucking on living human bones!
Synopsis
Island of Terror (1966) is a British sci-fi horror led by Peter Cushing, available to watch online on iFILM. On a small Irish island, a farmer turns up dead with every bone gone — the body drained from the inside.
A team of scientists headed by Dr. Stanley (Cushing) and Dr. West (Edward Judd) arrives to investigate. The culprits are the "silicates": shell-backed, turtle-sized creatures bred by accident in a lab chasing a cancer cure. They slide along almost silently, split in two to multiply, and suck the skeleton out of anything alive. The island is cut off, the next boat is days away, and the things keep doubling.
Director Terence Fisher, the hand behind much of Hammer's classic horror, swapped vampires for monsters here and leaned on the claustrophobia of a sealed-off island. The effects are quaint, but the bone-eater concept is genuinely inventive, and Cushing plays it dead straight, as always. Cozy dread for fans of vintage British horror.
