About

Synopsis

Mad Dog and Glory (1993) is a crime comedy-drama directed by John McNaughton — watch online on iFILM. Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman and Bill Murray headline.

Wayne "Mad Dog" Dobie is a police crime-scene photographer who has managed to spend his entire career avoiding anything remotely dangerous. One night he wanders into a convenience store robbery and saves the life of Frank Milo, a Chicago mob boss who moonlights as an aspiring stand-up comedian. Frank repays the debt by sending Wayne a woman named Glory — a waitress, for a week.

The casting is the whole trick: De Niro plays the shy, uncertain one, and Murray plays the gangster — flat, controlled, quietly menacing, with no punchlines. The film leans into that reversal rather than winking at it. It's a small, odd picture from 1993 that most people missed on release and often find better than expected.
