Synopsis
The Legend of Black Snake (Black Snake, la légende du serpent noir, 2019) is a French superhero spoof you can watch online on iFILM. Clotaire Sangala comes home to his African homeland after years in Paris, knowing nothing about his roots and convinced he was found in a trash can.
Raised by an elderly Chinese kung-fu master, Clotaire discovers he has fighting powers and a ridiculous knack for heroics. Out of that comes Black Snake — a masked, sharply dressed crusader who throws himself between the ordinary people and the dictator Hezekiah. The more dangerous the villain, the sillier things get; every solemn beat of the genre is flipped on its head.
The film was co-directed by Thomas N'Gijol and Karole Rocher, with N'Gijol also taking the lead and Édouard Baer turning up along the way. It's an African comic-book romp done French-style — deliberately cheap glamour, jokes about the colonial past, kung-fu folded into street comedy.
