The Adversary

Jean-Marc Faure is, by every outward measure, a success: respected doctor, devoted father, steady husband. For nearly two decades he has left home each morning headed, ostensibly, for a research position in Geneva. He goes nowhere. There is no job, no degree, no career — only a structure of lies maintained with exhausting precision, and borrowed money slowly running out. The film opens knowing how it ends, then walks back through how a man builds an entire life out of nothing and what he does when the nothing finally catches up.

Garcia shoots the whole thing in a near-clinical register — no melodrama, no explanatory flashbacks, just quiet observation.
